For a few extra bonus points on your next test (it's Thursday....STUDY!) click on the link below and take the quiz from the Constitution Center:

http://constitutioncenter.org/FoundersQuiz/

After completing the quiz, you will be matched up with one of our Founding Fathers. Read a little bit about him (click on the "read more" tab at the conclusion of the quiz) and post your results. Be sure to list a) your name b) your founding father c) a few details about the FF and a sentence or two about why he might have been selected by the computer (i.e. how are YOU like him).

This is an optional assignment but, if done well, will help your grade and help me and your classmates to know a little more about you and one of our Founding Fathers. :)

This bonus must be completed by Friday at 4pm in order to be considered for extra credit.

    b) Charles Pinckney a.k.a. David Hicks
    c) Charles Pinckney was a South Carolinian that was also apart of the Continental Congress. He was an excellent speaker and slightly stuck up based upon is biography. He was very ambitious and confident, and also took place in the Federalist's Party. He died three days after his 67th birthday. This person reminds me of myself because he is over confident and seemingly loud as well as intelligent. It's scary.

    B) William Paterson------- Nathaniel Montano
    C) William Paterson was born in Ireland and when he was two his family migrated to Connecticut then Trenton, New Jersey. He was five feet two inches, fastidious in his dress, mild-mannered, and modest in his demeanor. Paterson was a member of the first U.S. Senate and later governor of his state..
Paterson is exactly like me except the part where he is 5'2", and dead. He is exactly like me, maybe I am his reincarnation, creepy.

    b) James Madison
    c) Madison (1751-1836) is known by many as the “Father of the Constitution. He was instrumental in creating the document itself, as well as writing the Federalist Papers, which were meant to defend and explain its policies. He began his career serving on the Committee of Safety and the Virginia Convention, where he helped create Virginia’s state constitution. He did not fight in the Revolutionary War due to poor health, but continued his political career as it was being fought. He was appointed the youngest delegate in the Continental Congress in 1780. At the age of 50, he became the secretary of state for Thomas Jefferson, and was elected president of the USA himself eight years later. According to the quiz, I was matched up to this founding father because he was “diligent, scholarly, and shy”.

John is seen as somewhat stubborn and strong-willed. He is also more of a peaceful man. In this way we are alike.

    c) George Mason was a very wealthy and influential. He was an opponent of Madison and the Federalists and was in the justice of the peace. In 1759 he became part of the House of Burgesses. Mason wrote to defend the colonists from the Stamp Act and wrote a draft of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. He was very critical of the Philadelphia Convention. Mason refused to sign the Declaration of Independence because there was no bill of rights. Maybe I am like George Mason because I like to listen and understand people from different perspectives. I also like to work on my own and then work in a group. Mason wrote a draft of the Virginia Declaration of Rights and then other people helped finish it.

    C) Madison was the oldest of 10 children born into his family. He was successfully able to receive good education from tutors and the College of New Jersey. Although Madison was lucky enough to have a healthy life growing up, it was told he suffered from hypochondriac. That is a mental disorder where you consistently think that you do have a chronic disease. One reason the computer could have paired us up together is because, we both are enthusiastic about new ideas and movements. Another reason is, we both like to work by ourselves and we like the feedback from our peers.

Madison was from a large wealthy family, because of this he was able to received a good education. As a young man Madison decided to enter politics. During his life time he was a co founder of the democratic republican party, a secretary of state, and the 4th president of the United States. He was also one of the writers of the Federalist Papers.
    d) I think James Madison was selected as the founder I was most like because of his approach to working in groups. Both Madison and myself enjoy taking the reins of projects. I also believe that both Madison and I have similar personalities. Madison has a tendency to come across as melancholy. Though he was well known for dressing in Black, Madison could not have been too gloomy. He was married to one of the most boisterous women at the time. I like to think of myself as an upbeat person, but I can still see some similarities between Madison and myself.

    b)Rodger Sherman
c)Born in Massachusetts, Rodger was learning to practice his father's trade when he died at a young age. This inspired him to move to Connecticut, where he opened his own store and ran for and won several local offices, even without any former education. HIs skill in political debate was known around by the time he showed up at the Philidelphia convention. He published a series of almanacs containing some of his works and expressions. He served in the Continental Congress and helped draft The Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.
Described by the quiz as steady, rational and conciliatory, I find myself relating to Sherman well. I always have ideas and strong opinions, but try to voice them in a way where I am able to stay neutral in two sided discussions, without causing conflict of distress.

    Elbridge Gerry
Elbridge Gerry was the 5th Vice president of the United States under James Madison, and the 9th governor of Massachusetts. Gerry signed the articles of confederation and the Declaration of Independence, but refused to sign the US constitution because it lacked a bill of rights. "What, sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty. Whenever governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins," Gerry is describing how he feels an army in unnecessary because it only restricts the rights of the people. I also don’t agree with a militia or standing army like Gerry. Also like Gerry I believe the government has excessive power, which takes too much from the people, "The evils we experience flow from the excess of democracy. The people do not want virtue, but are dupes of pretended patriots."

c)George Washington is mostly famously known for being the first president of the United States of America. He was born in Virginia as the eldest of six children. He lived through the American revolution as the colonists rebelled against British oppression. During the war he served as the general of the Continental army because he had previous experience as a soldier in the Virginia militia. He recognized that the country needed a strong central government, a back bone, not only to protect the colonies but also to maintain order. Washington served for two terms and refused a third, setting the trend for the next presidents to come. He was a vital player in early American history. We both like to spend time outdoors (he owned a farm, and farmed), We'll listen to the opinions of others but not really take them into account. I also share his belief that a nation needs a strong central government to control the people.
